Porto to Povoa de Varzim
Walking Day 17: 30 km, 8 hrs
This was a great day for walking, almost all on oceanfront boardwalks with a cool sea breeze and no hills. The kilometers flew by.
We stopped on the plaza (Praca da Republica) in Vila do Conde for a relaxing lunch. There was a great view of the Monastery of Santa Clara from the plaza and approaches to town.
We then headed toward the mouth of the Ave River. The Portuguese Navy was providing demonstration rides there on both a large rigid inflatable boat (RIB) and a LARC (Lighter, Amphibious Resupply - Cargo). They also had static displays on a plaza in Povoa de Varzim, all for their Navy Day.
