Tomar to Alvaiazere
Walking Day 7: 31 km, 9 hrs
Paul switched from boots to sneakers, and was able to walk today. We ascended more than 800 feet in elevation to Alvaiazere on a very warm and dry day.
There were many wind turbines on the ridge tops. Wind turbines provide 27% of Portugal’s electric power; another 43% comes from other renewable sources.
We met Gunnar and Martin again after arriving in Alvaiazere. Even though we have met only once before, they seem like old friends. That’s how it goes on the Camino. We had very enjoyable dinner together. This is where we first learned about both Martin and Robbyn being hospitalized after the long day’s walk from Azambuja to Santarem.
